Das muß ein schlechter Müller sein,
Dem niemals fiel das Wandern ein,
Das Wandern
A man isn’t much of a miller, If he doesn’t think of wandering,
Wandering!

From Franz Schubert/ Wilhelm Müller ‘Die schöne Müllerin’

I like painting things white. The simple process of applying the paint. There’s something childlike about it. The joy of covering a surface. Covering in order to expose. Covering in order to excavate. Like scraping away earth with a small trowel around a find on an archaeological dig, to expose a piece of the past, but not.

For this piece of work I will be collecting things in and around Wellington Street, taking them back to the space and building something. I’m not sure what I will do, but I want to use white paint. I have worked in the building before. The space is frigid. It needs to be coaxed. I will try to encourage it to work with me. I will lean things against the wall. I will place things on the floor. I will draw on the things I find. I will paint things. I will listen to music. I will have a cup of tea.
